Trusting Your Instincts as a Massage Therapist (Video)
Trusting Your Instincts
One unfortunate con of being a massage therapist is that occasionally a client (or potential client) will make inappropriate requests for adult services – this is of particular concern if you offer mobile massage since you are going to their home. For this reason, it is extremely important to trust your instincts as a massage therapist and learn how to identify any ‘dodgy’ clients over the phone, rather than find yourself in their home before your realise their true intent.
In many cases the way the person speaks to you on the phone will get the alarm bells ringing, some indicators that you should decline the job include:
- They may use unusual terminology to describe the type of massage they want
- They may ring out of normal business hours
- They may text rather than call – never take a job by text only, you tell a lot by speaking to someone on the phone!
- They may just generally seem cagey and vague
Remember, if something doesn’t feel right, it is okay to say no to the job. It is better to miss out on the money than to put yourself at risk!
